Durch die Unterstützung der Datenqualität auf Ebene von Design und Community Interaktion, bietet SPOTTERON eine zuverlässige Plattform für Citizen Science Projekte. Es wird ein flexibles System zur Verfügung gestellt, das sowohl über Lizenzen zum Dateneigentum, so wie auch Open Data Lizenzen verfügt. Das geistige Eigentum der Medienelemente, die von Citizen Scientists beigetragen werden, wird über CC:0 Creative Commons Lizenzen geregelt, um einerseits Datenkonsistenz im Forschungsprojekt sicherzustellen und andererseits die Vorgaben durch die Datenschutz-Grundverordnung(DSGVO) der Europäischen Union zu erfüllen.
