Imagine your Citizen Science project is about recording ongoing data on a specific location or place. As a project partner on the SPOTTERON platform, you now can gently guide your contributing Citizen Scientists to make better, more accurate observations in the Apps by creating data timelines. |

You might already be familiar with the Spot-Update feature, which allows participants in your Citizen Science project to provide ongoing records of a location, species or object, and create timelines over extended periods to gather valuable data during its course. The data of these continuous contributions in the Citizen Science App are linked in reference to each other by submitting them as Spot-Updates. This feature can be used to create chronological timelines and monitor changes in the same location. Find out more about the "Spot Timelines" feature here on our Blog.
While this timeline functionality has been on the SPOTTERON platform for quite some time, not all Citizen Scientists are aware from the start of every detail and functionality within an App, especially when a Citizen Science project has been just launched.

To foster ongoing observations on a single data point, together with the international Citizen Science project "CoastSnap", we've developed the Nearby-Spots feature - a brilliant little helper within the App, that scans the user's surroundings for any already existing Spots within walking distance that might need updating. Depending on the App's custom settings, these Spots can be updated by the whole community. Instead of hundreds of people creating a new spot of the same particular tree in a park, the Citizen Scientists in the App can add their observations to an existing data point, with the apparent advantages. |
