Citizen Science for everyone! An interview with SPOTTERON in prestigious Austrian newspaper "Der Standard"

Biodiversity apps are booming, so it is no surprise that even traditional newspapers are writing about it. We are therefore proud to report that our co-founder Philipp was interviewed by the prestigious Austrian newspaper "Der Standard" (print edition) on new technologies and nature apps.

He gave some insights on the protection of personal data in Citizen Science apps and the differences in approaches of what we consider personal data worth protecting in Europe and America.

Philipp also explained how one of SPOTTERON's goals is to reach out to people and get them involved in Citizen Science, who are not necessarily already engaged in research or science, and how everyone can benefit from participating in a Citizen Science App, like the phenology research project "Nature's Calendar": "By documenting, e.g. a plant for a long time, and noticing that it starts to bloom earlier and earlier every year, you can see and feel the effects of climate change directly." It's moments like these that offer valuable teaching moments to everyone involved and broaden our view of our environment.

Philipp also mentioned a new biodiversity app that is already in the SPOTTERON pipeline and its aim to get new Citizen Scientist onboard and explore our beautiful planet together. Stay tuned!
